PFW Outfit - Check & Color

Hello, my dear friends! One of the biggest trend from Fall Winter runways, Paris no exception, and from the streets, is the check-print. Check prints of all sized and colors are seen in the past month, making it an inevitable item a fashionista must posses in 2018. The best way to check that off (get the pun?) your wardrobe update list, is to get a check-print coat or a suit.

While I think the Cher from Clueless look is quite cute, big checks in happy pastel and all, my personal favorite is a more neutral and possibly finer check print, because they are season-proffer and timeless. I picked up these beige-hued check print pants and oversized blazer last fall because I loved the strong shoulder tapered look of Balenciaga runway. I wrote a blog post about that particular styling, my choice of bottoms at the time was a cropped version. I decided to wear the same look again, however, the weather was significantly colder so I chose longer pants and a top coat.

Another trend I saw emerging, which I talk about during my runway report, is leopard print. Instead of layering with a coat in plaid or solid color, I wanted to pair with a leopard-print shearling coat just to push the boundary a little. Now the mix is getting exciting: we have the boy (check suit) and the wild (leopard), what should I use to connect the two? My first instinct was to use feminine but edgy accessories like a wide belt, a beret, etc. Eventually I settled with a red & white striped pants and a top-hapndle red (with white color block) bag. The finished look sends a strong but still inviting message.

The key style point of this look, is the use of strong-color accessories with neutral check print. Red, fuchsia, pink, green, even purple, would all work. If you are not a belt person, try a pair of shoes, or handbag, or hats in those colors. The ultimate clash between the rich & glam color and the understated, earthy print, in a way, is as good as the battle of the sexes.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you will try this styling trick with your new check outfit!
